Ukraine Reports Success in Counteroffensive

Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova once again stressed the importance of American and Western military assistance in general to achieve the victory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield.

The Ukrainian counter-offensive against Russian forces has been “particularly fruitful” in the past few days; Ukrainian troops are fulfilling their main tasks, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov said on Tuesday.

Russia still holds vast territories in eastern and southern Ukraine, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that Ukrainian forces have made progress after a “difficult” week.

“At this stage of active hostilities, the Ukrainian defense forces are fulfilling task number one – the maximum destruction of manpower, equipment, fuel depots, military equipment, command posts, artillery and air defense forces of the Russian army,” Danilov wrote on Twitter. “The last few days have been especially fruitful.”

Valeriy Shershen, spokesman for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Tauride direction, said that Ukrainian troops advanced two kilometers (1.2 miles) in the Berdyansk direction, despite fierce resistance from Russian troops.

On Monday, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar said that fighting broke out around Bakhmut. She said that in total, over the past week, the Ukrainian military has reclaimed 37.4 square kilometers of territory in heavy fighting.

Andriy Kovalyov, spokesman for the Armed Forces General Staff, said on Tuesday that Ukraine continues to put pressure on Russian troops north and south of Bakhmut and has achieved “partial success” in heavy fighting.

According to him, the Ukrainian military managed to hold back an attempt by Russian troops to advance in the direction of Liman, Avdiivka and Marinka.

In turn, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova once again stressed the importance of the military assistance that the administration of President Joe Biden and the United States Congress continue to provide to Ukraine at war. She noted that “the priority is still” the supply of air defense systems, armored vehicles, and, in the future, longer-range tactical missiles. According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the continuation of such military supplies to the fighting Ukrainian army should ultimately ensure its victory on the battlefield.
