The Enugu State Debate Team has been chosen by the Presidential School Debate, Nigeria (PSDN), to represent the country at the World Schools Debate Championship (WSDC) in Panama in July 2025. This follows their outstanding performance at the 2024 National Debate Championship in Abuja.
In a November 5, 2024, letter to Governor Peter Mbah, PSDN Chairman Usman Muhammad praised the team for winning first place at the national finals. Their success secured them a spot at WSDC, the world’s top competition for student debaters.
The team includes Emmanuella Chukwuma, Chiamaka Okwuibe, Goodness Chinedu Chiemerie, and Chibuikem Ukadike from top schools in Enugu. Their victory reflects Governor Mbah’s significant investments in education, which revived opportunities for students after years of neglect.
Governor Mbah allocated 33% of Enugu’s N521.5 billion 2024 budget to education—the highest in Nigeria. His efforts have led to scholarships and better resources, enabling students to excel nationally and globally.
Mbah emphasized that investing heavily in education is essential for reducing poverty. With N33 of every N100 spent on education, the state is empowering its youth, and Team Enugu’s success showcases the impact of this vision.
