The latest World Tourism Barometer (BTM) showed that El Salvador is the fourth best performing nation in the world in international tourist growth with 32 percent through July 2023, surpassed only by Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Albania.
At the end of 2022, the country received more than 2.5 million international visitors, a figure that even exceeded the dynamics that the country maintained in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, and this year it is expected to reach three million.
This rebound is influenced by improved security and an intense campaign deployed by the Ministry of Tourism, which includes the presentation of this destination as ideal for surfing and as a cruise ship arrival center. The 32 percent increase is only surpassed on a global scale by Qatar’s 95 percent, Saudi Arabia’s 58 percent and Albania’s 56 percent, according to figures from the International Tourism Organization.
An aspect worth highlighting in the efforts of Salvadorans is the programming of attractive events in the low season, including surfing, business and Miss Universe tournaments in November of this year.
The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, projects contributions to the national economy of two thousand 900 million dollars by the end of 2023, something that must be higher taking into account that until August the figure of two thousand 100 million was reached.
