Women’s Basketball’s Forbes Invited to AmeriCup Trials

Harvard Women’s Basketball senior McKenzie Forbes of Folsom, Calif. has accepted an invitation to compete in the AmeriCup team trials in Colorado Springs, Col. from May 11-15.

The FIBA AmeriCup is the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Americas Championship for countries in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. The competition now occurs during the Summer months and the roster will most likely be predominately collegiate athletes. Since the event’s inception in 1993, the United States has captured four AmeriCup gold medals, including titles in 2019 and 2021. In addition to the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela will participate in the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup. The draw is set to take place May 10.

As the USA prepares for the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, set for July 1-9 in Leon, Mexico, 22 athletes are expected to participate in the 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team trials. Players were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee, chaired by DePaul University head women’s basketball coach Doug Bruno, in collaboration with Jen Rizzotti, Connecticut Sun president and chair of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Committee.  After an excellent senior season in which she led the team to their first 20-win season in six years and 13th in Harvard history, won Harvard’s first ever Ivy Madness Tournament game and advanced to the fourth round of the WNIT for the first time in Harvard history, Forbes will hope to earn a spot on the team. She was named to the 2023 Ivy Madness All-Tournament team after scoring 27 points in the Crimson’s win over Columbia in the Ivy Madness semifinal and 16 points in the final against Princeton.

She finished her Crimson career having started in 54 of 56 games, scored 778 career points, with 119 baskets from three, pulled down 217 rebounds and passed off 131 assists through two seasons at Harvard.

More information on the FIBA AmeriCup is at the link at the top of the page and will be provided should Forbes make the roster.
